Facebook – Pride 2019

Benja and Studio Paperform were commissioned by the creative team from Facebook headquarters alongside fellow Jacky Winter artist – illustrator extraordinaire – Daniel Gray-Barnett to collaborate on their worldwide Facebook Pride campaign 2019.

Brief: Design and create a collaborative artwork combining paper sculpture and hand drawn illustration for the site’s main homepage cover photo across the Pride month of June. Because Facebook delivers messages across a diverse range of social platforms, the final illustration must be flexible enough to populate multiple image formats homepage, Instagram etc. As this campaign represents many different communities and voices, it is important for the image to foster an atmosphere of inclusivity and fun.

Story: As part of their ‘More Together’ creator series, Facebook have been pairing two different creatives of varying disciplines to formulate artworks together. What a great honour to work with Daniel on this! Daniel has a unique style to his work and his knockout children’s book, Grandma Z , has been globally recognised for spectacular talent. Under the title ‘let’s find more that brings us together’, we both conjured a variegated tropical island of love – complete with tiny paper dolphins. Where else to celebrate our diverse global LGBTQ+ community!? Felt lucky to have previous experience. We weren’t sure where the collaboration would lead us and our two unique styles found a wonderful synergy. When posted, the final piece garnered approx. 214 million Likes and 148,000 unique visitors.
